BIO2CHP (Bio-based Energy Technologies P.C.) is a technology-driven company dedicated to enabling decentralized energy production through the efficient conversion of low-quality biomass into clean syngas. Founded in 2017 as a spin-out of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, BIO2CHP builds on over 15 years of applied R&D in biomass gasification and gas cleaning technologies. Our mission is to accelerate the decarbonization of small- and medium-sized enterprises—particularly in the agri-food sector—by turning organic waste streams into valuable, clean energy. We aim to empower local industries to reduce their environmental impact, cut energy costs, and close the loop on their waste.

BIO2CHP’s core innovation lies in its modular, containerized gasification units designed for flexibility, efficiency, and ease of use. The technology integrates Bubbling Fluidized Bed Gasification (BFBG), optimized for heterogeneous feedstock such as grape pomace, olive kernels, or digestate, with low ash melting points with, High-Temperature Gas Cleaning, a proprietary system adapted from diesel particulate filters, enabling the removal of tars and particulates without cooling the gas.

The result is a fully integrated system which includes fuel pre-treatment, gas conditioning, energy conversion (CHP or burner), automation (PLC-controlled), and safety features in a plug-and-play format. This design allows operations with minimal infrastructure and remote monitoring, making it ideal for distributed, small-scale applications.
