TAP Mobility
About
TAP is building what is essentially air traffic control for urban road networks. Today, navigation systems optimize each trip independently. TAP instead coordinates the departure times and routes of thousands of commuters simultaneously, redistributing demand across the road network before congestion forms.
The platform works with cities, employers and commuters. It learns regular travel patterns, identifies where flexibility exists, and gives each commuter a personalized departure time and route. The system is designed so that users are not asked to take a longer or worse journey simply for the benefit of the network.
By coordinating traffic rather than treating every journey independently, TAP aims to move road networks closer to a system-wide optimum: reducing delays, improving traffic flow and increasing the utilization of infrastructure that cities already have.
TAP is currently preparing its first city-scale deployment in Reykjavík, Iceland.
