ReKava focuses on local recycling of coffee grounds, saving tons of waste from landfills or incineration. We collect coffee grounds from cafés, companies, and institutions using electric cargo bikes and Smart Bins with sensors that monitor fill levels. Linked to an app, this system enables efficient collection and transparent monthly reports on diverted waste. In community gardens, coffee grounds gain a second life as a substrate for growing oyster mushrooms. For smaller businesses and households, we offer growkits that let people cultivate mushrooms at home. In collaboration with Plastia, we created an innovative growkit with pigment made from recycled coffee grounds. Through cascade recycling, the grounds become a natural colorant for plastics, resulting in fully circular products. This growkit received the Red Dot Design Award 2025 for design and sustainability.

Building on this, our Mushroom Walls turn coffee waste into on-site cultivation installations for cafés and companies, offering fresh mushrooms and a tangible sustainability impact.
