EURAC Research activity is rooted in local issues which are then developed on a global level, thanks to a multidisciplinary approach and an international vision. Studies focus on issues that affect people, their health and the environment around them, with the aim of improving life in the societies of the future. Often, in response to regional problems, EURAC Research develops concrete solutions that can be applied in different contexts, exploring new avenues based on interdisciplinarity and scientific excellence. Today, Eurac Research has more than 700 employees from over 45 countries.
The Institute for Renewable Energy is one of Eurac Research's key institutes, dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions through applied research and innovation. The institute works on optimizing energy systems in buildings and urban environments, developing technologies and strategies for energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and smart grid solutions. Through experimental facilities including testing labs and demonstration buildings, the institute bridges fundamental research with practical implementation, supporting the transition toward decarbonized and resilient energy systems. Its work spans from component testing to district-scale energy planning, always maintaining a strong connection between local Alpine challenges and broader European and global energy transitions.
The Center for Sensing Solutions (CSS) is a competence center within Eurac Research that focuses on the whole data life cycle, developing and applying innovative sensing technologies and data analysis methods for various domains, such as mountain agriculture, environment and related risks, mountain related activities (including rescue and hazard monitoring), and craftmanship. The CSS aims to provide cutting-edge solutions for the monitoring, management, and optimization of complex systems and processes, as well as to generate new knowledge and insights from large and heterogeneous data sources, contributing to the FAIR data Principles and fostering the implementation of data sovereignty through data spaces.
