Universal Gateway

The Universal Gateway (UGW) is not just a “gateway ECU”—it’s a software library / middleware core that OEMs integrate into their own ECUs or controllers.

Its core job:

• Route, transform, and manage data between different vehicle networks in real time

• Abstract away differences between protocols, speeds, and physical layers

Think of it less as a device and more as a configurable routing engine for vehicle communication.

Another key features is that there is no recompilation needed for most changes.

• Routing is defined in a “gateway table”

• This table is:

  • Created with the Composer tool

  • Loaded at runtime (post-build configuration)

Implications:

• Late-stage changes (even in production) are possible

• OEM-specific configurations can be swapped without firmware rebuilds
