WHO ARE WE?
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is a world leading oceanographic research institution. Becoming
an independent, self-governing marine charity in November 2019, the NOC is built on a foundation of
~65 years of delivering world class multidisciplinary research, at scale, from coast to deep ocean.
Underpinning NOC’s world class ocean science capabilities is a boundary pushing technology
capability that enables full geographical and depth coverage of the planet’s ocean environment.
WHY WORK WITH US?
The NOC is home to world leading expertise that delivers understanding of almost every aspect
of the ocean environment. We provide science that feeds into advice for policymakers, regulators,
governments and industry around the effects and influence of the ocean on global climate, subsea
ecosystems, habitats, geosciences, knowledge about the water column, tides currents and storm surges.
The NOC is home to the UK’s National Marine Facilities, which support the UK academic research community
as a national capability, allowing them to utilise our capabilities to conduct their work in the deep seas and harshest
marine environments. We work with a broad range of organisations and stakeholders including, multinational organisations
such as the UN and, increasingly, businesses, particularly through our subsidiary NOC Innovations Ltd.
OUR GOALS
Our aim is to build a world where everyone feels empowered and inspired to help our oceans thrive by giving people the opportunity, ability and motivation to protect, restore, and harness the value of our ocean. We’re doing everything in our power to pursue and promote groundbreaking research and innovation. We believe that if we all have a deeper understanding of the ocean, we can unlock its potential and provide solutions to problems facing the world today Because by helping our ocean, all life on Earth will benefit.
