MAΚE is a working group investigating the material and structural characteristics of the architectural artifact. Workshops are organized towards the custom-design and full-scale construction of small-scale architectural structures, focusing on the continuum and the complexities of the design process. Experimentation in applied research is nurtured through the merging of professional practice within an academic perspective, in practice-based modules fostering teamwork and multi-disciplinarity.
The UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY was founded in 1984 and welcomed its first students in the academic year 1988-1989. Administratively based in Volos, it has developed in the whole region of Thessaly and Central Greece in Volos, Larissa, Lamia, Karditsa and Trikala. The UTH is organized in 8 Schools, 37 Departments and 71 Post-graduate Study Programs.
CRAFTING CIRCULARITY. An ERASMUS+ project seeking to connect circular construction strategies to architectural education by integrating novel teaching methodologies based on availability-based design practices implemented in project-based design & build workshops and design studios.
LAYERS OF PERMANENCE. A design & build workshop looking at how to employ salvaged building elements in the (re)use of existing structures in concrete. Hands-on experimentation in international groups via component studies, physical models, construction mock-ups, and full-scale prototypes to explore how reclaimed materials can be combined to activate the otherwise vacant building stock to host ephemeral spaces.
