About
The Green Fund is a Public Legal Entity supervised by the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy, established by Law 3889/2010 to drive sustainable development through environmental protection and restoration. Its primary mission is to manage and distribute financial resources—derived largely from environmental taxes, fees, and auctioning of emission allowances—to support programs that combat climate change and preserve biodiversity. As a critical financial tool for Greece's environmental policy, the Fund is responsible for developing financing frameworks, evaluating and monitoring green projects, and collaborating with local authorities and public bodies to implement initiatives ranging from urban regeneration to the management of Natura 2000 sites. Furthermore, it serves as the National Contact Point for the European LIFE Programme, facilitating the integration of international best practices into national environmental actions.
