About

The replacement of thermoset resins with thermoplastic resins in wind turbine blade manufacturing is a promising strategy to improve sustainability. Current blades rely heavily on thermoset materials, which are difficult to recycle due to their crosslinked structure. In contrast, thermoplastics can be remelted and reshaped, enabling easier recycling and circular material use. Additionally, incorporating locally sourced materials—such as replacing imported balsa wood with local wood—can reduce environmental impacts associated with transportation and resource extraction. The use of natural fibers instead of synthetic ones further enhances sustainability by lowering carbon footprints and improving end-of-life options. Together, these approaches contribute to more environmentally friendly wind turbine blades.
