Circular Valorization of Inert Construction and Demolition Waste

Jorunn Thingnes

Head of Sustainability and Development at Sirkula IKS

Hamar, Norway

About

The project idea focuses on the innovative, high-value reuse of inert construction and demolition waste (CDW) by transforming materials such as bricks, tiles, ceramics, and porcelain into new, marketable products. Potential applications include interior and garden solutions, soil production, and other high-value uses. For insulation materials, the project will explore opportunities for reuse as insulation or conversion into new products.

The work will involve piloting and testing small-scale solutions for the utilization of inert waste streams, alongside the development and prototyping of new products based on recycled materials. Product performance, quality, and applicability will be assessed through practical trials and validation activities. In parallel, the project will explore market potential and user acceptance for circular products, while assessing the technical, environmental, and economic feasibility of the proposed solutions. Finally, it will evaluate the potential for scaling up from pilot to full-scale production, including relevant business models and value chains
