Partners for RIVCircular Topic 1 – KMF / Mineral Wool Waste Recycling

About

IBE Projects GmbH, based in Vienna, is looking for partners to build a consortium for the RIVCircular cascade funding call under Topic 1 – Construction and Demolition Waste Circularity.

Our proposed project focuses on the demonstration of a circular treatment route for artificial mineral fibre waste (KMF / AMF / MMVF), mineral wool waste and other difficult mineral construction and demolition waste streams.

KMF and mineral wool waste are bulky, low-density and difficult to recycle mechanically. In many cases, old fibre-based insulation materials may also require special handling due to respirable fibre fractions. Conventional landfilling does not provide a circular solution and is becoming increasingly restricted and costly in Europe.

IBE Projects GmbH develops technologies for the high-temperature treatment, inertisation and recycling of mineral fibre waste. The objective is to transform problematic fibrous waste into safe, non-fibrous secondary mineral raw materials suitable for construction-related applications.

The proposed project may include:

- mapping and characterisation of KMF / mineral wool waste streams;

- preparation and pilot-scale treatment of selected waste fractions;

- high-temperature inertisation and transformation of fibrous waste;

- validation of treated secondary mineral materials;

- laboratory testing, fibre analysis and environmental safety assessment;

- LCA and comparison with landfilling;

- economic assessment and industrial scale-up planning;

- replication strategy for other RIVCircular regions.

We are looking for partners from eligible RIVCircular regions, especially:

- waste management companies;

- demolition and construction waste operators;

- recycling companies;

- laboratories for mineral materials and fibre analysis;

- LCA and environmental assessment experts;

- research organisations;

- construction product manufacturers;

- regional innovation and circular economy stakeholders.

Partners who can contribute real KMF / mineral wool waste streams, waste logistics, testing and validation, demonstration sites, LCA expertise or market replication opportunities are particularly welcome.

The intended outcome is a demonstration-oriented project showing how difficult mineral construction waste can be converted into safe secondary raw materials instead of being landfilled.
