BODEGAS MANZANOS

The story of Bodegas Manzanos is the story of a family, of its effort, perseverance, and know-how. The Fernández de Manzanos family has been cultivating vineyards and making wines with passion and dedication for over a century.

It all began in 1890, when the first generation founded a small winery in Azagra with a production capacity of 50,000 liters. In the 1940s, a new facility was opened, expanding the capacity to 350,000 liters, reinforcing the area’s winemaking tradition. In the 1950s and 1960s, the family consolidated their project with the creation of Viña Marichalar, the first winery in the Rioja Designation of Origin to exceed 1.5 million liters of capacity.

In the 1990s, Víctor Fernández de Manzanos Pastor, the fourth generation, joined the family business after training as a Chemical Engineer and completing a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Oenology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He was the first family member with technical training in the sector and led the construction of the Marqués de Butrago winery, as well as his major personal project: Bodegas Manzanos.

Since 2010, the fifth generation—formed by brothers Víctor and David Fernández de Manzanos—has been at the helm of the winery. Together, they have transformed Bodegas Manzanos into a modern, international, and technologically cutting-edge winemaking group, while maintaining the essence of tradition and the legacy they inherited.

In February 2025, Michel Boutin, founder of the Domaines Michel Boutin group, acquired the Manzanos Wines Group, which includes Bodegas Manzanos. This transaction marks the beginning of a new phase characterized by a global vision, greater ambition, and renewed strategic momentum for the entire group.
