After the Battle: Treating wounded Ukrainian veterans
Rehne speaks about the experiences treating Ukrainian soldiers "on the fly" and how this is different from normal everyday orthopedic surgery routine. This includes challenges such as complex fractures and multi-resistant bacteria. The presentation also covers firsthand experiences about how war can cripple a national healthcare system and how it could be a huge challenge for Denmark to deal with patients in the event of a large-scale war.
Rehne has been using 3D scanning in the work with creating prostheses for amputation patients (where the patients' external leg prosthesis is clicked onto a bone-anchored implant) and will present a case with a Danish veteran who was able to walk after being in a wheelchair for 2 years using with that technology.
