About
People in Need (PIN) is an international humanitarian and development organization with a long-standing presence in Ukraine since 2003. Building on its strong partnerships with local authorities, civil society, and technical institutions, PIN delivers impactful interventions across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), District Heating, Renewable energy, energy resilience, and green recovery.
As a key member of the WASH Cluster Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) and the District Heating Strategic Working Group (DH-SWG), PIN plays a leading role in restoring essential public service infrastructure—water supply, wastewater management, and solid waste systems—across a wide geographic area. The organization is also among the few humanitarian actors supporting the rehabilitation and stabilization of district heating systems nationwide.
PIN co-leads the Renewable Energy Technical Working Group under the WASH Cluster and co-chairs the Energy Coordination Group, advancing efforts to integrate backup and renewable energy solutions (solar, wind, biogas) into humanitarian and recovery programming. Through these platforms, PIN promotes innovation, knowledge exchange, and cross-sectoral collaboration among national and international partners.
In addition, PIN partners with municipalities, local businesses, and community initiatives to champion green recovery and energy transition efforts—mainstreaming renewable energy and sustainable solutions across WASH, shelter, and livelihood interventions, and contributing to Ukraine’s broader sustainable development and resilience goals.
