Susana Cristobal

Professor

linköping university

Linköping, Sweden

We develop proteomics and metaproteomics tools to reveal how pollutants and stressors affect biological systems, supporting exposomics, health risk assessment, and predictive environmental health.

My organisation

We all want to create a better world. At Linköping University, LiU, we use boundary-breaking research and innovative education to get there. To solve the challenges of the day, we are in continuous and close contact with industry and society. International rankings show that LiU is among the world’s top universities. Our students are sought after in the labour market, and we are one of the most attractive employers in Sweden. We believe that all this stems from our courage to think freely and innovate in contexts large and small. LiU continues to give generations of curious individuals the opportunity to grow and contribute to a better world. We do this with the power of 44,500 students and 4,700 co-workers.

About me

Prof. Dr. Susana Cristobal (Linköping University, Sweden)

usana Cristobal is Professor at Linköping University (LiU), Sweden, working at the interface of proteomics, toxicoproteomics, exposomics, and environmental health. Her group develops mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metaproteomics approaches to understand how pollutants, bioactive compounds, and environmental stressors affect biological systems, from molecular mechanisms to organism and ecosystem-level outcomes.

Her research supports predictive toxicology and health risk assessment using shotgun proteogenomics in non-model species, thermal proteome profiling, and Proteome Integral Solubility Alteration (PISA). She coordinates the Water4All project HALOBISE (2025–2027), has contributed to EU projects including GOLIATH and CYANOBESITY, and holds leadership roles in Swedish and international networks in chemical safety, mass spectrometry, and environmental omics.

She is interested in collaborations connecting environmental exposures, molecular mechanisms, systems biology, One Health, human health risk, biodiversity, and pollution mitigation.
