About

MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 – AI for Non-Destructive Testing (HIGHVISION-NDT)

CENIM-CSIC (Madrid, Spain)

CENIM-CSIC invites outstanding postdoctoral candidates to apply for the MSCA PF 2026 within the HIGHVISION-NDT project, focused on next-generation AI for industrial inspection of critical metallic infrastructures.

The project will develop a Physics-Informed Inspection Network (PIIN), integrating metallurgical and mechanical principles into advanced deep learning models (ResNet, EfficientNet) to enable accurate, explainable, and certifiable defect detection in industrial environments.

Research Scope

The fellowship will address key challenges in three sectors: hydrogen pipelines, industrial molds, and additively manufactured components, through:

  • AI-based inspection of welds and structural defects

  • Physics-informed machine learning with uncertainty quantification

  • Surface quality analysis and defect classification in metals

  • Explainable AI (XAI) aligned with industrial standards (ISO, EU AI Act)

What We Offer

  • Full support for MSCA proposal preparation

  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities (imaging, HPC, laboratories)

  • Strong collaboration with industry and participation in a deep-tech spin-off

  • Advanced training in AI, materials science, and industrial standards

  • A dynamic international research environment in Madrid

Candidate Profile

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD (or defend before September 2026) in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics, or related fields

  • Have ≤8 years of postdoctoral experience and comply with MSCA mobility rules

  • Demonstrate experience in machine learning/computer vision (Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow)

  • Have a solid background in materials, NDT, or physical modelling

  • Show a strong publication record and excellent English skills

Experience in physics-informed AI, industrial standards, or EU projects will be considered an asset.

Application Process

This is a hosting offer: selected candidates will jointly prepare the MSCA proposal with the supervisor before the 9 September 2026 deadline.

Deadline to apply: 31 July 2026
Start date (if funded): Spring 2027
