About

About

The Emergency and Urgent Care Research Group focuses on the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of sudden cardiac death (SCD) through an integrated research approach combining multiple healthcare data sources.

Research activities focus on the prevention and management of sudden cardiac death across different temporal stages. Long-term prevention includes epidemiological studies integrating multiple health data sources, with particular attention to gender differences, toxic exposures such as alcohol and drugs, psychiatric disorders, and environmental risk factors.

Mid-term prevention aims to develop predictive models based on artificial intelligence and advanced statistical methods that integrate clinical history, electrocardiographic markers, environmental variables, and warning symptoms reported in the weeks preceding cardiac arrest.

Short-term prevention focuses on the development of early detection systems using digital health technologies, including wearable devices, remote monitoring systems, and coordinated first-responder alert networks through emergency dispatch centers. In addition, the group conducts research on personalized resuscitation strategies during prolonged cardiac arrest, including optimization of chest compression depth, defibrillation strategies, and patient selection for advanced therapies such as fibrinolysis or extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECMO-CPR).

Candidate profile

The group welcomes both technical and clinical candidates interested in multidisciplinary research on sudden cardiac death. Technical profiles may include expertise in predictive modelling, artificial intelligence, health data integration platforms, and clinical data visualization. Clinical candidates are expected to engage with the multifactorial determinants of sudden cardiac death, including cardiovascular disease, toxic exposures, and environmental stressors.

Candidates must comply with MSCA-PF eligibility rules.
