Looking for MSCA-PF 2026 candidates for Zaragoza (Spain)

María Pilar Lisbona Martín

Associate Professor at Universidad de Zaragoza

Zaragoza, Spain

About

Our research leverages the Calcium Looping (CaL) process—a reversible carbonation-calcination cycle—as a thermochemical storage solution. The core novelty lies in developing and validating a system based on solid separation. This approach aims to significantly improve heat integration, maximize energy density, and reduce the complexity of conventional TCES systems.

The MSCA Fellow will contribute to:

  • Advanced modeling and simulation of the carbonation-based TCES cycle.

  • Experimental validation of the solid separation concept in pilot-scale or laboratory setups.

  • Techno-economic and environmental assessment (LCA) of the integrated system.

  • Optimization of reactor designs (fluidized beds) for enhanced solid-gas interaction and heat recovery.

Host Institution & Supervision: The fellow will be hosted by the Aragón Institute for Engineering Research (I3A) at the University of Zaragoza, under the supervision of Associate Professor Pilar Lisbona. The I3A is a multidisciplinary center with extensive experience in international projects and a strong focus on circular economy and energy efficiency. We offer a high-level training environment, access to specialized laboratories, and a robust network of academic and industrial collaborators.

Candidate Profile: We seek a candidate with a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, or Energy Engineering. Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued:

  • Thermodynamics and process simulation (e.g., Aspen Plus, Matlab, CFD).

  • Thermochemical energy storage or CCUS technologies.

  • Experimental research in fluidized bed reactors or gas-solid systems.

  • Proven track record of high-quality scientific publications.
