AI-driven Digital Twin Solutions for Advanced Manufacturing and Intelligent Production
About
At Fraunhofer IAPT, our Digital Twin team creates advanced, real-time digital replicas of additive manufacturing (AM) chains to boost efficiency, quality and resource-use.
By systematically integrating sensor data, machine and process interfaces, and a complete data infrastructure, we enable predictive control and process optimisation.
Our work spans the full AM value chain — from component design and material feed, through manufacturing systems and post-processing, to line integration and factory planning. In major projects (such as BigDataLMD), we combine in-situ sensors (e.g., optical/machine data), edge computing (SINUMERIK Edge), and AI-driven simulations (using Siemens Insights Hub®) to identify critical process influencers and proactively improve part stability.
We target industry-relevant application areas (Mobility, Life Science, Energy, Security) and aim to make AM production robust, autonomous and resource-efficient. If you are interested in collaboration on digital twin technologies for AM — whether academic or industrial, German or international — we are open to partner discussions.
