About

The proposed project, “Design, fabrication, development and evaluation of electrospun nanofiber based innovative pharmaceutics for different therapeutic indications,” aims to develop a novel class of nanofiber-based drug delivery systems specifically wound dressings and ocular inserts through the implementation of electrospinning technology. This addresses major clinical needs as chronic wounds affect around 1% of the world population, costing healthcare systems $20 billion yearly1. Furthermore, visual illnesses such conjunctivitis and uveitis affect 6% of Europeans, with limited viable therapy due to low medication penetration2. This research responds to an urgent clinical and technological need for highly targeted, biocompatible, and effective drug delivery platforms that can address microbial resistance, limited solubility, poor tissue penetration, and delay in healing associated with the changing of bandages with chronic wounds and infections in ocular disorders
