People and Nature

Merideth Gattis

Professor of Psychology at Cardiff University

Cardiff, United Kingdom

About

I am a senior investigator leading research projects on people and nature, with the aim of improving outcomes for both. I collaborate with charities, businesses, and government organisations to identify and address societal needs related to people and nature and to ensure that our research delivers positive impact.

I am interested in how natural environments influence and improve social interactions. Our research with families has demonstrated that natural environments improve parent child communication. Our research with adults has demonstrated that shared time in nature increases feelings of social connection between adults.

I am also interested in what factors influence care and concern for the natural world. We are working with conservation charity WWT to help them evaluate and improve the impacts of their nature connection programme Generation Wild.

We use a wide range of innovative research methods, including participatory design, observation, and experiments.

Please see my Cardiff University webpage for more information about our research on people and nature, including our partnerships.

As Supervisor and Principal Investigator I am interested in new opportunities for cooperation and collaboration. I am happy to discuss potential applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships, Doctoral Networks, and Staff Exchanges with European universities and other organisations.
