The Institute of Food Science Research (CIAL) is a leading Spanish research center in the field of food science, jointly operated the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). The institute brings together top researchers from complementary fields and is organized into three departments:

• Food Bioactivity and Analysis

• Food Biotechnology and Microbiology

• Production and Characterization of Novel Foods

CIAL offers access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, an interdisciplinary environment, and a long-standing track record in international collaboration. The center fosters cutting-edge research into the complex relationships between food, nutrition, and health, with the ultimate goal of applying nutritional science to promote public well-being and support sustainable economic development.

Research at CIAL focuses on understanding the physiological effects of food components on human health and disease prevention, improving their safety and sensory properties, and identifying molecular mechanisms through advanced tools such as metabolomics, proteomics, genomics, and microbiomics. These integrative approaches address major challenges in food and health research, including the development of novel functional foods and targeted nutritional interventions.

CIAL has participated in many EU-funded research projects, both as coordinator and partner, and our researchers are currently involved in several Horizon Europe initiatives. This includes a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant awarded to one of our researchers. The institute has also hosted numerous international researchers, including previous MSCA Postdoctoral Fellows.

CIAL would be pleased to host talented postdoctoral researchers under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 call. We welcome expressions of interest from researchers with outstanding CVs wishing to develop proposals in the following thematic areas:

• Functional foods and bioactive compounds

• Foodomics: proteomics and metabolomics

• Sustainable food production and circular bioeconomy

• Food safety assessment and microbiology

• Nutrition, microbiota, and health interfaces
