Introducing CoPaNa - an EDF Quantum Computing Project

CoPaNA – Concatenated Parity Codes on Neutral Atoms

Fault-tolerant quantum computing is a key technology for Europe’s future security and defence policy. Its applications range from submarine and mine detection, quantum-secure communication and highly complex logistics to real-time intelligence and reconnaissance.

Funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF), CoPaNA is building the technological foundation for using these systems in practice and at scale. At its core is a consortium from three EU member states that covers the entire value chain:

  • ParityQC (Austria): The architectural heart of the project. ParityQC provides the patented blueprints and operating systems for the required error correction.

  • Pasqal (France): A European hardware pioneer, Pasqal contributes scalable quantum processor technology based on neutral atoms.

  • Thales Nederland (Netherlands): Thales keeps the work tied to real-world use and integrates it into security-critical defence applications.

CoPaNA combines cutting-edge hardware research, pioneering architecture work and defence expertise in a flagship project for Europe’s technological sovereignty.
