About

The Research Institute, established on June 4, 1992, is a scientific foundation whose mission is to promote basic, clinical, epidemiological, and health services research in the fields of health sciences and biomedicine. Its aim is to contribute to improving people's health and quality of life through the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, the training of world-class researchers, the generation of healthcare innovations, and the application of advances in healthcare practice and health policies.

Located on the Sant Pau Campus, it is a biomedical research center of excellence, affiliated with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) since 2009, and a center of the CERCA system for Catalonia since 2011.

The Institute is comprised of its own and affiliated staff, who conduct their research in multidisciplinary basic and clinical research groups from the sister institutions located on the Sant Pau Campus and its surrounding areas. This has also led to its recognition as a high-level healthcare research center since 2011, focused on developing new techniques and processes through healthcare innovation.

The Research Institute is one of the most active Catalan centers in the production of research, particularly in translational research and the integration of new discoveries into healthcare practice.
