About

Maritime Robotics is a Norwegian technology company and global provider of advanced maritime autonomy and Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, the company has nearly two decades of experience developing autonomous navigation systems and robotic vessels for professional maritime operations. Its vision is to enable safer, more efficient and more sustainable access to the ocean space through autonomous technology.

At the core of Maritime Robotics’ technology is its Autonomous Navigation System (ANS), which can be integrated both into the company’s own USVs and into third-party surface vessels. The system combines onboard control, remote operations and situational awareness through technologies including SeaControl, SeaSight and the Vehicle Control Station, allowing vessels to sense their surroundings, make navigational decisions and execute missions with different levels of autonomy—from operator-guided operation to fully autonomous navigation. The architecture is designed to integrate a wide range of sensors, payloads and mission-specific systems.

Maritime Robotics offers a family of modular sea-drone platforms for different operating environments. The OTTER is designed for sheltered and coastal waters, while the larger OTTER X extends capability into coastal and river operations with greater robustness and payload flexibility. The MARINER and MARINER X are designed for coastal and open-ocean operations requiring greater endurance, payload capacity and capability in demanding sea conditions. The platforms are sensor-agnostic and can integrate multibeam and single-beam echo sounders, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, LiDAR, radar, EO/IR cameras, environmental sensors, magnetometers and other specialist payloads.

The company delivers systems across several major maritime markets, including marine mapping and hydrographic surveying, oceanographic and environmental data collection, offshore energy, maritime infrastructure inspection, defence and security, surveillance, mine countermeasures and maritime transportation. USVs can conduct seabed mapping, environmental monitoring, harbour surveillance, infrastructure inspection and persistent patrol missions while reducing the need to expose personnel to hazardous offshore environments. The platforms can also support and deploy ROVs and other underwater systems, creating integrated surface and subsea robotic capabilities.

A key advantage of Maritime Robotics is the combination of proven autonomous vessels, proprietary autonomy software and an open payload architecture. Rather than developing a platform around one specific sensor or mission, the company provides flexible robotic systems that can be configured around the operational requirements of individual customers and partners. This allows the same underlying technology to serve applications ranging from scientific research and hydrography to offshore infrastructure protection and defence.
