Zavod 404

Zavod 404 is a Slovenian non-profit organisation combining applied research and engineering with hands-on STEAM education. We develop custom laboratory equipment, robotic systems and working prototypes for research and industry partners, while collaborating with schools, teachers and communities across Slovenia.

Our technical work turns research requirements into devices that can be built, tested and improved. Our experience includes laboratory automation, equipment for pharmaceutical applications and additive manufacturing. One example is LlamaJET, a system we developed for printing identifiers directly onto laboratory vials and tubes to support sample identification and traceability. We can contribute mechanical design, electronics, control software, system integration and prototype testing.

Our educational work connects science and technology with real-world challenges. Through practical activities, young people and teachers design, build and test solutions, developing technical skills and an understanding of topics such as sustainable mobility and the green transition. We can support co-design, school and community engagement, educational demonstrators and pilot activities in Slovenia.

We are looking to join Horizon Europe and other European consortia as a technical development partner, an educational pilot partner, or both. We are particularly interested in projects involving laboratory automation, smart manufacturing, environmental monitoring, sustainable communities and skills development. Early involvement allows us to help define realistic equipment requirements and plan sufficient time for development and validation.
