TPG Cleantech is a Canadian deep-tech and clean-technology company developing advanced engineering concepts for sustainable mobility, distributed energy, hydrogen transition, clean water, and modular industrial systems.
Our flagship concept for smart urban mobility is EEB – Engineered Energy Bus, built around TPG’s EEV Power Tailoring Doctrine (PTD). Rather than relying on a conventional fixed-power hybrid architecture, EEV-PTD separates sustained energy generation from transient and peak-power demand.
The architecture combines:
-
a primary sweet-spot power source designed to operate close to its most efficient operating range;
-
a high-response battery or supercapacitor buffer for acceleration, peak loads and regenerative-energy recovery;
-
an ECU/Power Management Control Unit for real-time energy allocation, DC-bus regulation, diagnostics, protection and thermal management;
-
and distributed electric traction, including in-hub or near-wheel motor configurations, reducing dependence on conventional mechanical drivetrains while enabling responsive traction control and regenerative braking.
EEB is conceived as a phased urban-transit decarbonisation platform rather than a single-generation vehicle.
Phase 1 – Near-term deployment:
The initial architecture uses an opposed-cylinder engine-generator operating with conventional or lower-carbon fuels, combined with TPG’s modular OCC oxidised-carbon capture concept, electric energy buffering, ECU-based power tailoring and distributed traction. The objective is to achieve substantial reductions in fuel consumption and emissions while avoiding the need for immediate replacement of existing urban energy infrastructure.
Phase 2 – Hydrogen transition:
As hydrogen production, storage and refuelling infrastructure becomes commercially and operationally mature, the same EEV-PTD platform is designed for transition toward an OCE-H₂ engine-generator configuration, preserving the majority of the electrical drivetrain, energy-management architecture and vehicle platform. This approach is intended to minimise stranded investment and support progressive transition toward zero-emission public transport.
At system level, EEB can also be integrated with depot-centred hydrogen infrastructure, where locally available electricity and water are converted into hydrogen for direct fleet use. This creates a scalable energy-to-mobility ecosystem linking public transport, renewable electricity utilisation, hydrogen production and smart depot operation.
TPG is currently seeking European partners for engineering modelling, power electronics, advanced controls, electric traction, vehicle integration, hydrogen systems, carbon-capture validation, research and testing, urban demonstration, and public-transport deployment.
Potential partners include municipalities, transit authorities, universities, research organisations, mobility clusters, bus and vehicle manufacturers, power-electronics companies, hydrogen technology providers, utilities and industrial integrators.
Our objective is to build collaborative pathways for technical validation, Horizon Europe consortium participation, pilot demonstration and future industrialisation of EEB/EEV-PTD as a scalable platform for smart, resilient and progressively decarbonised urban mobility.
