From seasonal tourism to year-round mountain communities: smart services, culture and housing for Alpine resilience

About
Many Alpine and rural territories are affected by depopulation, ageing, lack of services and strong tourism seasonality. At the same time, remote work, new residential aspirations, cultural innovation and ecological transition are opening new possibilities for mountain areas.
This project idea aims to test an integrated transition model: activating cultural participation, reusing existing buildings, enabling remote work, developing community-based temporary residency and measuring the conditions that can transform temporary presence into long-term attachment.
Valle Soana would act as one of the pilot territories, together with other European mountain, rural or inner areas. The project could compare different local models and develop a transferable toolkit for smart, inclusive and resilient mountain communities.
Partners sought
Mountain municipalities, regional authorities, universities, RTOs, social innovation organisations, cultural organisations, housing cooperatives, digital service providers, energy experts and rural development agencies.
Expected outputs
Pilot actions in multiple territories; smart community service models; participatory governance toolkit; indicators for measuring community resilience and attractiveness; policy recommendations for mountain and inner areas; replication guidelines.
Keywords
Mountain resilience; smart communities; depopulation; seasonality; cultural participation; remote work; community housing; rural innovation; Alpine regions; territorial regeneration.
