TECNALIA RESEARCH ¬ INNOVATION
Acerca de
TECNALIA RESEARCH & INNOVATION (www.tecnalia.com) is a private, independent, non-profit applied research center of international excellence in Europe and a member of BRTA (Basque Research and Technology Alliance). Legally a Foundation, Tecnalia is the leading private and independent research and technology organisation in Spain and one of the largest in Europe, employing around 1,510 people (326 PhDs) and with income of 156 Million € in 2025. The whole team at TECNALIA has one GOAL: to transform technology into GDP, meaning wealth to improve people’s quality of life through generation of business opportunities for industry. Tecnalia works with an increasingly strategic business relationship model based on trust, collaboration, and a shared technological approach, whereby our main scopes of action are digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, energy transition, sustainable mobility, health, and the urban ecosystem. TECNALIA has been granted 645 patents and promoted more than 21 spin-off companies.
BIOMATERIALS AREA is focused on four main research fields:
-
REGENERATIVE MEDICINE: synthesis and processing of biomaterials, soft tissue regeneration, hydrogels, porous materials shaping by different routes; Formulation of innovative biomaterials; Obtention of biomaterials by decellularization of native tissues; Bioinks formulation with customized functionality adapted to processing techniques; Processing by additive technologies (3D bioprinting, FDM, SLA, SLS, 3D pellet extrusion, electrospinning, screen printing); Physical, chemical and mechanical validation; Biomaterials and 3D structures for advanced cell culture.
-
CONSUMABLES FOR DIAGNOSTICS: Surface modification of biomaterials; Sensor surfaces in flexible substrates; Integration of electrodes in flexible substrates; Electrochemical detection systems, fluorescence (FRET, polarized fluorescence); Printed microfluidic; Process miniaturization and integration in Lab on Chip; Designs adapted for large scale production techniques
-
EVALUATION OF (BIO)MATERIALS: Safety: In vitro and in vivo evaluation: Biocompatibility, CE marking; Cell – (bio)material interactions (inflammatory response, proliferation, cellular differentiation...); Animal model- (bio)material interactions; Evaluation of functionality (antimicrobial functionality, biofilm formation); (Nano)toxicology.
-
TRANSDERMAL PATCHES (Transdermal delivery of active substances; Transdermal monitorization of substances; Wearable devices; IoT connected).
