IFMIF-DONES España
Acerca de
IFMIF‑DONES España is a Spanish public consortium created in 2021 to design, build, and operate the IFMIF‑DONES facility in Escúzar (Granada)—a single‑sited European research infrastructure that generates fusion‑like high‑energy neutrons to test, validate, and qualify materials for DEMO and future fusion reactors. As Spain’s institutional vehicle within the DONES Programme, the consortium leads the project’s engineering, construction, operations, safety, and stakeholder coordination, and represents Spain in the programme’s governance bodies.
The facility—central to Europe’s Fusion Roadmap and listed on the ESFRI Research Infrastructures portfolio—combines a 40 MeV, high‑current deuteron accelerator with a flowing liquid‑lithium target to produce a 14 MeV‑centred neutron spectrum at sufficient intensity and volume for materials irradiation, enabling design and licensing data essential to DEMO. Beyond fusion, the installation will support advanced research and applications in nuclear physics, astrophysics, medical isotopes, and industry.
