Within the CRO, the Unit of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology has over twenty years of experience in developing innovative therapeutic strategies for cancer patients. The Unit is committed to optimizing and personalizing both traditional and advanced pharmacological treatments through biomolecular analyses and monitoring of plasma drug concentrations.
The Unit adopts an integrated approach to the pharmacological management of solid tumors, developing and applying cutting-edge solutions. Its main research areas include:
1. Pharmacogenetic characterization, both germline and somatic;
2. Therapeutic drug monitoring of several oral anticancer drugs;
3. Identification of new biomarkers with clinical and predictive value;
4. Development of prognostic and predictive models using artificial intelligence techniques;
Research is carried out in collaboration with national and international consortia and is funded through major competitive grants. The Unit also provides clinical services, including pre-treatment pharmacogenetic consultations and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Its laboratories are accredited under ISO 15189 for pharmacogenetic and TDM diagnostic activities and participate in international external quality assessment programs (www.emqn.org, www.skml.nl).
