The Universidade da Coruña (UDC) is a public institution established in 1989, located in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain.

The UDC’s research capabilities are concentrated in more than 135 research groups, with a research community of over 1,400 people. The main research areas at UDC are organised around different research centres and similar structures:

  • CITIC: ICT Research Centre.
    Main research lines: Artificial intelligence; Data science and engineering; High‑performance computing; Smart services and networks; Cybersecurity.

  • CITEEC: Research Centre for Civil Engineering and Building Construction.

  • CITENI: Research Centre for Naval and Industrial Technologies.
    Areas of work: Industrial technologies and processes; Naval technologies and processes; Logistics; Energy management and sustainability.
    Research lines: Materials science and technology; Modelling and simulation; Mechanics; Design, prototyping and testing.

  • CICA: Centre for Advanced Scientific Research.
    Chemistry and Biology with a One Health approach.
    Research lines: Biomedicine; Food, pollution and health; Nanoscience and advanced materials.

  • SAI: cross‑cutting research infrastructure and specialised staff to support scientific, technical and humanistic research, available to external public and private organisations.

UDC’s commitment to research and knowledge transfer is reflected in its strategy for attracting research talent as well as in securing competitive funding:

  • 8 ERC projects over the past 10 years, with a further 20 candidates reaching the interview stage.

  • 33 Ramón y Cajal researchers currently active; 30 recruited in the last five years.

  • 18 Beatriz Galindo researchers recruited in the last four calls.

  • 17 junior postdoctoral researchers recruited in the last two calls.

  • In‑house talent attraction programme: InTalent, in collaboration with INDITEX.

This research effort translates into funding secured and partnerships with companies:

  • €35 million obtained for R&D&I from sources external to UDC.

  • 280+ new contracts and agreements each year.

  • 75+ new projects per year.

All this activity stems from the Universidade da Coruña’s commitment to excellence in research and knowledge transfer. We seek to share the resulting cutting-edge knowledge with the productive sector to help improve its competitiveness.
