Unlocking the Carbon & Nature Credit Market for Small-Scale Farms in Europe

Location:Innovation Stage

Small-scale farms are being asked to contribute to Europe's Net Zero transition - yet they remain almost entirely locked out of the carbon and related markets built to reward exactly that effort.

Costly measurement, fragmented methodologies, immature business models and weak demand mean the farms delivering tangible environmental impact are not able to monetise it. If we don't fix this now, the carbon farming economy will scale around large industrial players, while the millions of small farms that define Europe's agricultural and rural fabric are left behind.

This session tackles it head-on: beyond carbon, how do we measure resilience and real impact without burying small farms in costly MRV? How do we build a methodology simple enough to apply, yet rigorous enough to be credible? What business model actually turns credits, combined with other financing, into a viable income stream for small farms? How do we unlock real demand for high-quality, local, small-farm credits?

The audience will also be engaged in the discussion via live polling. Insights will be documented and shared by the PATH2CC Consortium, contributing to building a working model for farm income.
