About
The main mission of the Department of Architecture at the University of Florence focuses on the culture and science of design in all its dimensions and transversality: of architecture, design, cities, planning, and landscape. The design dimension is called upon today to deal with the complexity of the environmental, economic and social changes taking place, with the new scenarios opened by the globalization of production processes and with the innovations introduced in communication systems. This requires a cultural approach and research methodologies in which critical and interpretative skills are integrated with a wide range of technical and design skills, capable of directing the transformations of physical space and the related design and production processes toward forms of sustainable and conscious development, with the goal of improving the quality of life of all humanity and the environment.
