About

The Global Ecovillage Network of Europe (GEN Europe) is a well-established network of over 100 ecovillages, community-led initiatives, and regional hubs across Europe, working at the intersection of sustainable living, social innovation, and participatory governance. GEN Europe is ideally positioned to contribute to this call through its extensive practical experience in strengthening the social fabric of rural and semi-urban communities undergoing ecological transition.

Our Contribution:

  • Community-led engagement methods: We bring 25+ years of experience in participatory processes that foster belonging, co-ownership, and collective agency. We support grassroots groups in co-designing and implementing sustainable transformations rooted in cultural and social values.

  • Case studies and pilots: GEN Europe can mobilise diverse examples of neighbourhood-scale initiatives already applying regenerative practices, inclusive governance, and social cohesion strategies—many in areas affected by depopulation or transition risks.

  • Cultural participation and civic engagement: As a network that integrates arts, storytelling, local heritage, and nature-based practices, we offer insight into how cultural activities strengthen collective identity and catalyse civic action for sustainability.

  • Transdisciplinary expertise: Through partnerships with researchers, local authorities, and creative actors, we facilitate knowledge exchange that bridges lived experience and academic insight, aligning with NEB values and working principles.

  • Dissemination and scaling: We provide strong outreach channels across Europe’s regenerative communities and civil society, supporting the visibility, uptake, and policy relevance of project results.

GEN Europe is seeking to join a consortium as a partner focused on stakeholder engagement, community-based research, pilot implementation, and dissemination. We are open to supporting coordination of participatory actions and the integration of alternative models of neighbourhood development grounded in solidarity, equity, and ecological responsibility.
