wear | us
About
wear | us is an experimental social economy project that helps people make luxury basics for themselves and for the ones they love. It also allows professionals coming from textile manufacturing (we call them makers) to earn a decent compensation for their skills.
At wear | us makers work in daily shifts of three hours earning approximately 40EUR per hour. They produce luxury basics using only compostable textiles made in Europe or dead stocks of compostable textiles. At the moment, we're producing using:
-
100% linen dead stock jersey sourced from Italy;
-
90% cotton 10% cachemire dead stock jersey sourced from Italy;
-
70% cotton 30% hemp made in Poland.
we will start our first pilot in Brussels in June, 2025.
wear | us hosts four interwoven research questions:
-
can move the production of clothes back into families and neighbourhoods;
-
can we set up an economically sustainable activity based on three-hour workdays;
-
can we design clothes and accessories that become learning pathways to allow any person to start making their own clothes;
-
can we design luxury clothes with compostable materials only.
We're already working on a consortium with a potential coordinator, we're thrilled if anyone is interested and would like to join. We welcome entities interested in hosting a production centre, or in research.
