About
The Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography (IEGD) is a research institute of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC — Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas), the largest public research institution in Spain and the third largest in Europe. IEGD is hosted at the Centre for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS-CSIC) in Madrid and brings together researchers across three interlinked disciplines: applied economics, human geography, and demography.
IEGD's research addresses structural transformations in contemporary societies, with particular strengths in: international migration and mobility (including Ukrainian displacement, Eastern European mobility in Southern Europe, and the socioeconomic integration of migrants); labour market dynamics, over-qualification and brain drain; housing markets and territorial inequality; public finance and fiscal policy; and population ageing and demographic change.
The institute has extensive experience in national and European competitive research projects, including Horizon Europe, H2020, and nationally funded R&D+I programmes.
