About
The Université de Montpellier Paul-Valéry (UMPV) is one of the two universities of Montpellier where the academic tradition dates back to Middle Ages. UMPV attracts yearly 21 000 students, including 750 PhD students, in its 6 faculties and 2 doctoral schools - international students account for 21%. Thanks to its 23 laboratories and strong support offices, UMPV leads a variety of programs in both fundamental and applied research. Archaeology, arts, history, history of arts, cultural studies, geography, risk management, psychology and behavioural studies are some of its fields of excellence. Over the last 6 years the university also strongly invested the field of the digital humanities, becoming an essential and transversal component of all teaching and scientific activities. In 2023, the university won the France 2030 (national investment programme) call for proposals “Excellence in all its forms” with the MIRANDA project. Within the next 10 years MIRANDA will build around the UMPV a hub of excellence in research and creation in the fields of the arts, culture and heritage. Together with ICARES, the Institute for Understanding, Anticipation and Intervention in Environment and Global Health, they form the two pillars of the university’s scientific strategy
