About
We are coordinating a proposal under HORIZON-CL2-2026-01-DEMOCRACY-01, focusing on tackling gender-based violence against politically active women and LGBTIQ people, a critical and growing challenge for democratic resilience across Europe. Our proposal aims to better understand the patterns, drivers, and impacts of such violence, both online and offline, and to develop effective, evidence-based responses that protect participation in democratic life.
The project will adopt an interdisciplinary and multi-level approach, combining social and political research, data analysis, and policy evaluation. It will map existing forms of violence and intimidation, assess institutional and legal frameworks, and identify gaps in protection mechanisms. Particular attention will be given to intersectionality, recognising how overlapping identities shape exposure to violence and barriers to participation.
Building on this analysis, the project will co-create practical tools and policy recommendations with key stakeholders, including public authorities, civil society organisations, and affected communities. These outputs will aim to strengthen prevention, reporting, and response systems, enhance institutional capacity, and promote safer, more inclusive political environments across Europe.
As coordinator, Tero PC will ensure strong integration across work packages, effective stakeholder engagement, and high-quality impact-oriented results. We are currently seeking consortium partners, particularly public authorities and scientific organisations, to contribute expertise in gender studies, democratic governance, human rights, data collection, and policy implementation. Our goal is to build a balanced, multidisciplinary consortium capable of delivering meaningful and lasting impact at both EU and national levels.
