Generative AI, Information Integrity and Societal Resilience: Countering Medical Misinformation in Democratic Societies
Professor at Royal Holloway University of London
Surrey, United Kingdom
About
This project aims to strengthen democratic resilience in Europe by addressing disinformation, including medical and public health misinformation, through an integrated framework combining behavioural science, computational analysis, generative AI literacy, and AI-supported creation of verified public educational materials.
The project responds directly to EU priorities related to democratic resilience, preparedness, digital literacy, and societal trust. It will generate scientific evidence, practical literacy tools, and policy-ready implementation models to help citizens critically evaluate information, resist emotionally manipulative narratives, and make evidence-informed decisions during crises and democratic processes.
A core innovation is the integration of citizen information resilience (demand-side) with trusted educational information supply resilience (supply-side), ensuring that trustworthy, accessible, and rapidly updateable medical and public information materials are available to counter misinformation ecosystems.
