“Education, Cultural Identity and Sustainable Development: Challenges of Integrating SDGs into the Education System”

Prof.associate.dr. Faculty of Law, Vice Dean at University of Prizren

Prizren, Kosovo

About

Examine the role of education as a mechanism for transmitting sustainability values without compromising students’ cultural and linguistic identity.

Identify key institutional, curricular, and pedagogical challenges that hinder the integration of SDGs in primary, secondary, and higher education in Kosovo/the region.

Assess the current level of SDG-related content in curricula, textbooks, and teaching practices.

Propose concrete models and strategies for localizing the SDGs, using elements of cultural heritage as a tool to increase student engagement and impact.

Provide recommendations for policymakers, education directorates, and teachers on aligning international SDG standards with the local socio-cultural context.

Significance of the Study

This study seeks to contribute to the debate on an education system that does not force a choice between “modern” and “traditional,” but instead merges both to develop citizens who are proud of their identity while equipped to address global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and migration.
