Ethics and Critical Thinking in the Digital Age
researcher, leader at FILOE

About
This project concept explores how digital environments, including social media and AI-driven systems, shape critical thinking, value formation, and individual as well as collective decision-making. In rapidly evolving information ecosystems, individuals are increasingly exposed to large volumes of fragmented, personalized, and potentially misleading content, which can influence attitudes, beliefs, and social behavior.
The project would investigate these dynamics from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining insights from social sciences, education, and ethics. Particular attention would be given to the role of cognitive biases, emotional engagement, and algorithmic influence in shaping how people interpret information and make decisions.
Building on this analysis, the project could develop and test educational frameworks and practical interventions aimed at strengthening media literacy, critical thinking, and ethical reasoning across different age groups. This may include the design of training materials, participatory workshops, and innovative learning approaches that enhance individuals’ ability to critically assess information, reflect on values, and engage responsibly in digital environments.
The project would also aim to contribute to societal resilience by addressing misinformation, polarization, and reduced trust in information sources. Outcomes could include policy-relevant recommendations, educational tools, and strategies for fostering more informed, reflective, and engaged citizens in the digital age.
