The Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) is a public university that combines  high-quality teaching, intensive research, and excellent graduate employment rates  with a strong social commitment, making it a benchmark in these areas, as recognized by various global indicators. In the QS World University Rankings 2023 , the UAM consolidates its position among the top 220 universities in the world, thanks to its strong academic reputation and standing with employers, as well as its extensive international research network. It is the third-best university in Spain and the top-ranked in Madrid, and is among the 100 most prestigious universities in Europe. The UAM also stands out as a leader in the Teaching and Learning category among the 79 institutions analyzed in the report by the Knowledge and Development Foundation ( CYD ).

The UAM campuses, sustainable and easily accessible, offer a  complete university experience , as they house all kinds of services, including libraries, museums and some thirty sports facilities, as well as a wide variety of cultural activities and volunteering and cooperation programs. 

Collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) at one of the first International Campuses of Excellence in Spain has allowed the university to create a privileged environment for research and teaching and to become a leader in Nanoscience, Advanced Materials, and Life Sciences. Furthermore, the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) is part of the  Civis alliance, a European Civic University , one of the first pan-European campuses promoted by the European Commission (EC).
