PhD/Post-doc in radio signal processing for indoor localization and environment sensing

About

We seek for partners that is willing to focus on developing propagation-aware indoor localization methods using commodity IoT devices (e.g., BLE, UWB). The goal is to detect, classify, and quantify complex radio propagation phenomena—such as multipath, Non-Line-of-Sight (nLoS), and shadowing—using high-level measurements (RSSI, phase, time) across multiple dimensions: frequency, spatial channels, and polarization.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Technical Background: Expertise in digital signal processing and wireless communication theory, specifically in ranging and positioning techniques such as ToF, TDoA, AoA, and Multicarrier Phase Difference (MCPD), Channel Sounding (CS).

  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, numerical modeling, and statistical inference using MATLAB or Python. Experience with machine learning (clustering, anomaly detection) for signal classification is highly desirable.

  • Hands-on Experience: Practical knowledge of low-power IoT platforms (e.g., Nordic nRF52/nRF54 series) and experience in conducting experimental measurement campaigns in both controlled (anechoic chambers) and real-world environments.

  • Competencies: Ability to design and implement energy-efficient communication protocols and algorithms that can run on resource-constrained devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing analytical and numerical models of radio wave propagation in complex indoor scenarios.

  • Designing algorithms for phenomena detection and adaptive configuration selection to improve localization robustness.

  • Processing large-scale multidimensional datasets and contributing to high-impact scientific publications.

  • Collaborating with an international team and participating in the full lifecycle of IoT system development—from theoretical concept to field validation.
