Helios Project LTD

Founded in 2018, Helios is an industrial deep-tech company developing a new chemical route to iron, derived from technology originally developed for space-resource extraction. The proprietary Helios Cycle™ uses recyclable metallic sodium in a closed loop to convert low-grade iron ores, mining residues and industrial by-products into high-purity, steel-ready iron, with zero direct process CO2 emissions. The process is designed to reduce production cost and dependence on high-grade ore, on large centralised infrastructure, and on green premiums.

Helios is developing compact, modular production systems for deployment near mines, resource sites or steel plants, with commercial modules targeting approximately 50,000 tonnes of iron per year. Smaller-scale systems are operating today; a demonstration system is being commissioned in Israel, to be followed by a pre-commercial industrial pilot in the United States and subsequent commercial deployment.

Helios was recognised by the World Economic Forum in 2024, received the Net-Zero Industries Award in 2025, and has been listed in the First Movers Coalition since 2024. Helios holds a board seat at the World Steel Association and engages with leading steelmakers, mining companies, engineering groups and strategic industrial partners globally. Iron is the current commercial focus; the same platform has shown potential for other metals and critical minerals, which is not yet a commercial priority.
