Synflora

Synflora is a Barcelona-based biotechnology company developing a new generation of engineered skin biotherapeutics for dermatology.

Our proprietary platform uses genetically engineered Cutibacterium acnes, a natural resident of the hair follicle, as a living micro-factory capable of producing therapeutic molecules directly at the site of disease. This enables localized and potentially sustained therapeutic activity within skin compartments that are difficult to reach with conventional topical treatments.

Our lead program targets moderate-to-severe acne vulgaris, where we aim to reduce inflammation and sebum production while lowering treatment burden, systemic exposure and reliance on antibiotics. The platform is designed to be modular, allowing additional therapeutic programs to be created by changing the payload while retaining the same underlying bacterial chassis and engineering framework. Potential expansion areas include atopic dermatitis and other inflammatory dermatological conditions.

In parallel, Synflora is exploring a separate non-GM cosmetic and postbiotic strategy, using microbiome-derived ingredients, secretomes and other bioactive products for applications such as sebum balance, skin barrier support, scalp care and skin health.

Synflora is currently progressing through preclinical development, manufacturing scale-up and regulatory preparation. We are interested in collaborations with pharmaceutical and dermatology companies, biotechnology partners, CDMOs and strategic investors, including co-development, licensing, manufacturing, clinical development and indication-specific partnerships.
