Shanghai iKelvin Life Science & Technology Co., Ltd. is a life-science technology company specialising in cryogenic engineering, automation and biological sample management. Founded in Shanghai in 2020, the company develops integrated solutions covering sample preparation, long-term storage, automated retrieval, transportation and digital traceability for hospitals, biobanks, universities, research institutes, public-health organisations and the biopharmaceutical sector.

At the centre of iKelvin’s technology portfolio is its all-electric −196°C cryogenic storage platform, designed to address one of the main limitations of conventional cryogenic biobanking: dependence on a continuous external supply of liquid nitrogen. Instead of using externally supplied LN₂ as its primary cold source, the system generates deep-cold conditions electrically through cryocooler technology and combines this with efficient cold transfer, vacuum insulation, active temperature control and integrated backup protection. This enables stable −196°C-class storage without routine external LN₂ refilling, while supporting automated storage, retrieval and individual sample access.

The company’s iSage Biobank / iSG-ULF196AC platform combines this all-electric cryogenic architecture with automated biological sample management. The system is designed for high-throughput biobank environments and supports automated box, single-tube and multi-tube retrieval while maintaining samples within a deep-cryogenic environment. The technology also incorporates a dry-nitrogen, micro-positive-pressure chamber to minimise moisture ingress and frost formation, together with multiple levels of cold-source and power redundancy.

Complementing this technology, iKelvin has developed the iSG-LN2F integrated liquid nitrogen generation system, allowing laboratories and biobanks to produce liquid nitrogen directly on site rather than depending entirely on external deliveries. The compact system uses a Stirling cryocooler combined with built-in pressure swing adsorption technology and can produce at least 30 litres of LN₂ per day at more than 99.99% purity. This provides an additional option for institutions that still require liquid nitrogen for specific laboratory processes or as part of their cryogenic backup infrastructure.

Together, these technologies position iKelvin as more than a storage-equipment supplier: its approach combines all-electric deep cryogenics, automated sample handling, digital biobank management and on-site cryogenic supply infrastructure into an integrated platform for next-generation biobanking.
