Development of Cellular-Structured Implants to Enhance Osseointegration
- SECTION 11: Mini Scientific Student Conference
In the topic of orthopedics, the most commonly used prostheses are dense and made of titanium alloys. So rigid these prostheses are that it can cause stress- shielding in the bone and accelerates osteoporosis, which can lead to the reason of the instability of the prostheses. In previous researches the cellular structured implants are found to have reduced the rigidness and the effect of stress shielding. Numerous studies have already been written about this topic, but no agreement has been made as to which cell-type and cell-diameter are the most suitable for reducing stress- shielding and increasing osseointegration. In my research, I am searching for the best combination, which will be proved by finite- element simulations and mechanical tests.
