The Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib) is an applied research centre with its own team of 150 employees, conducting R&D to help companies develop healthcare technologies and improve biological manufacturing processes.

For the MEDICA community, our expertise includes biopharmaceutical production, diagnostic technologies, protein and enzyme engineering, and bioprocess development. We work on recombinant proteins and biological nanoparticles, including viral vectors, virus-like particles and extracellular vesicles, as well as analytical methods for their characterisation.

We support industrial partners in developing production systems, improving upstream and downstream processes, and addressing challenges in yield, purity, product quality and process monitoring. Our capabilities include fermentation and cell cultivation, purification, and biochemical and molecular analysis.

Companies can collaborate directly with acib through contract research and joint R&D projects. Alongside our own research capabilities, we provide access to complementary expertise, laboratories and infrastructure through our academic network across Austria. We also help build consortia for national and European funding programmes.
