About
BuKi - Hilfe für Kinder in Osteuropa e.V. - is a Germany-based NGO that runs since 15 years a day care center for Roma children in Cidreag, Romania.
Forty children visit our facility daily. They go to school in the morning and receive socio-educational support in the afternoon.
Our services include basic social security, social work, school support, real live trainings, career guidance and humanitarian aid.
BuKi is like a bridge. BuKi takes Roma children by the hand, reduces their social barriers and leads them, as if across a bridge, out of their world and into Romanian school and society.
BuKi's work is effective. With our support, Roma children's access to education has increased significantly. Many children now graduate from local schools and attend secondary schools in Satu Mare.
And although these young people can now read, write, and do math, and have school qualifications, they do not reach the first job market. They work as day laborers or in the labour migration and continue to live in poverty. They have no access to decent employment. That was not the goal of BuKi.
Our social workers also provide support to young people who have left school prematurely or have never reached the school.
Satu Mare is 40 km from Cidreag. The young Roma from Cidreag cannot access the job market in Satu Mare.
The young Roma in Cidreag know nothing other than working as day laborers or in migrant labor. They therefore have no idea that other employment opportunities exist.
As part of our practical education program, we have started talking with the Roma youth about the cost of living and how to avoid poverty. The program focuses on alternative employment options. The young Roma are very interested in this program.
We haven't yet succeeded in placing the young people in actual jobs. We are very interested in this in the future and would like to make it possible with the help of this funding.
BuKi successfully guides children into school. We now want to successfully support Roma youth in their transition to the workforce. To this end, we are looking for project partners.
We would be delighted to hear about your interest and a potential project partnership. Please get in touch with us.
